Griffin Fence opened for business in 1979 — the year Houston's population crossed the 1.5 million mark and the city was in the midst of the oil boom that would define its decade. The company was founded by a Houston fencing professional who believed that quality installation and honest dealing were the foundation of a sustainable local business. Forty-seven years later, that foundation still holds.

Houston has changed enormously since 1979. The metro has grown from roughly 2 million people to over 7 million. The agricultural land west of Beltway 8 that Griffin Fence crews drove through in the early 1980s became Katy, Cinco Ranch, and Bridgeland. The fields south of 610 became Sugar Land and Pearland. The pine forests north of the city became The Woodlands and Spring. Griffin Fence grew with the city, building fences in each new wave of development as it moved outward from Houston's urban core.
